I have always been interested in music as a kid and playing instruments like the Saxophone and Piano whilst growing up really gave me passion for the craft I now love. Since 2014 I have focussed my attention on music production and creating sound, releasing electronic music singles and working with other producers and artists along the way. It was also around this time when I created the alias known as ATOM, I have spent countless hours on projects trying to figure out the sound that I wanted ATOM to be known by. Fast forward 5 years and I feel as though I am now in a position where I can truely showcase who ATOM is and what he stands for.

Production Scope

ATOM'S WRLD is a two part album consisting of live and electronic music production, with an ultimate objective to merge genre's and demographics together in one place. This album will be structured as a mixtape would be, for example at the end of each track it will progressively blend in with the introduction of the next piece of work. The objective for Part A of this album is to create a musical piece which is broken into 4 songs, although, when played in it's organised sequence it will play as one piece of music with an extended time of roughly 8-10 minutes. The concept for this album is an audio representation of what it would feel like to be somewhere in the unknown and out of your comfort zone.

Introduction/Background

This project will take the audience on a journey through different instrumentation and sound design to convince the listener of one songs meaning and then bring the perspective to a new place and convince them of the next. The album will start off with an introduction that has very ambient and unquantized production techniques, moving into the second track which has an aim to inspire hope within the listener through a progressive melody/solo. Then the third; which has at this point evolved into a piece of music to inspire empowerment in the audience, and finally the last piece is to portray joy and peace within it's sound, giving room for a change in direction for Part B. By creating unique synth patches and intertwining them with foreign aspects such as the recording of electric guitars, live recording drum sequences, piano scores and saxophone jams to name a few, is the number one reason why this project will turn heads and make an audience want to listen again. Originally I was going to produce this album with only live instrument recordings, but I had figured this has already been done before and there is only a minority of producers out there who are combining live sound mixing ability with electronic sound design.

Targets/Goals

If I were to name one target demographic I hope to reach out to in this album, I might have some difficulty doing so. This is because the overall aim is to bring demographics together through sound, uniting people for a short period of time as they listen to my work. From middle age metal heads to millennial rap lovers, this album will cover many genres and emotions. I think a project like this will attract a multitude of people due to its unique arrangement and delivery, consumers and producers alike will want to take interest in it to attempt to decipher what I did in its process of creation. Usually, I would turn to Soundcloud as the platform of my choice because of the specific demographic I am targeting, but due to having multiple genre's of which include rock inspired themes and production styles of the modern and futuristic era, I think Spotify will be my best bet. Take reference from the images below from Bring Me The Horizon's song MANTRA. Image A is the amount of plays it gained on Soundcloud (147K) and Image B is the plays it gained from Spotify (42.8M).

Market Competitors

When deciding on the production style for this album, completely disregarding genre or tonality, I took a lot of influence from an individual known as Flume and a band called King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Both parties have released albums in the past which feature a progressive style of play. I mostly pulled inspiration from Flumes most recent release "Hi This Is Flume", which is a 38 minute long piece of work broken into 17 individual songs, he even has a visual made for the entire mixtape. His use of the freeze effect, long risers and sweeps create seamless transitions between songs, this I have taken into account in making my own project.

Business Case

This project is going to be undertaken for educational purposes, it will show the listener that the possibilities for cross-genre production is possible and limitless if done correctly. It will also give ATOM great exposure once uploaded onto streaming services for his attempts at creating a new blended genre of rock and electronic music. It will also give the target audiences a feel for different genres if they have not already experimented with others out of their favoured listening.

Key Stakeholders

The key people involved are a group of individuals who have been brought together to help bring the vision I have created. These people are Dominic Ward who is playing guitar on the record, Jacob Thrum is to be recording drums for certain tracks and I will be designing all electronic sound and structuring the overall project along side mixing and mastering each individual piece of work and covering all project management to make sure this project runs steadily. I am also working with a graphic design student named Shailey Brown who is creating the album cover artwork for me.

Risk Management

There are few potential risks involved with a project like this, although to me some stand out more than others.

Risk 1: Communication

Description: Group members fail to communicate appropriately, slowing down progress.

Accountability: 3rd party liaison

Mitigation Strategy: Use effective communication strategy to resolve misinterpretation or individually check up on team members weekly for updates.

Risk 2: Individual artists are not informed

Description: Failure to understand deliverables

Accountability: Individual

Mitigation Strategy: Make description clear at the start of the process

Risk 3: Damage to studio equipment

Description: Artist isn't educated on how to handle equipment ultimately damaging equipment

Accountability: Individual

Mitigation Strategy: Give run down of equipment to in-experienced artists before session commences

Risk 4: Loss of data/files

Description: Session data has been deleted due to a software crash or loss of property

Accountability: Individual

Mitigation Strategy: Back-up data onto 3 seperate sources.

Risk 5: inaccessible expectations

Description: Expectations of quality and length are out of reach for budget and time allocated

Accountability: Individual

Mitigation Strategy: Time-box correctly and and overlook on each week to see updated progress on project and decide each week if work is still on track
